However, talking about submarines without mentioning all the sailors who operate these machines is a huge omission.
Throughout the more than 100 years of existence of submarines, hundreds of men - officers, sergeants and private soldiers - have embodied each of the pages on which, day by day, their history has been written.
With a high professional spirit and a great sense of solidarity, companionship, knowing how to listen to others, they always knew how to overcome difficult living conditions and restrictions of various kinds imposed by the environment in which they performed their duties.
Everyone knew the submarine and, knowing that their actions could cause damage to the garrison and the ship, they were aware of the importance of their role, carrying it out with true commitment and a sense of mission, with the full conviction that when the hatch boarding was closed and the submarine dropped moorings, the outside world did not exist.
This spirit, this attitude, this way of being is transversal to all those who dared to immerse themselves in the kingdom of King Neptune and had the opportunity to listen to the depths of the seas. All those who have had this privilege are part of the Diving Family.
It is this Diving Family that today, with the creation of the Association of Scuba Divers of Portugal, is summoned.
The idea of creating an association was born from the success of the numerous gatherings held and always well attended by former divers.(Facebook image Submarinistas de Portugal) |
A group of former divers recently took the initiative to create an association.
The proposal presents the following statutory objectives:
Promote, develop and consolidate camaraderie and naval solidarity among divers, especially through cultural and recreational activities, helping to enhance coexistence among members.
Spread the submarine weapon and support actions to clarify the mission of the submarines, in accordance with the policy and objectives of the Navy.
Contribute to the conservation and protection of the historical heritage of submarines, independently, through coordinated actions with the Navy or in collaboration with public or private entities.
Promote and develop relations between this Association and similar associations of other nationalities.
Maintain permanent contact with its members.
Contribute to the well-being of former divers and their families.
On October 8, some members of the ASubPOR Installation Commission were received by Admiral CEMA. The meeting went very well and there was an opportunity to convey to the Chief of the Navy the objectives of the Association, its inspiration and highlight the aspects in which, despite its autonomous and civil nature, in his opinion, a fruitful collaboration could take place. with the Navy. For his part, Admiral CEMA thanked the initiative and, while making considerations about the importance that the Association could have in the future, wished those present the best.
